The Parkway Preservation Committee was created
to generate awareness and understanding of the significant economic,
social and environmental impacts the Robert Moses Parkway has on
the community fabric of the Greater Niagara region.
The Parkway also is a vital transportation route that provides
a significant return on investment for our region, including Niagara
Falls and the communities of the lower Niagara River region.
The Parkway Preservation Committee advocates for
a scenic Parkway that maintains these positive impacts as well as
a Parkway that can be properly maintained and enhanced as an open
space with linkages to the Niagara Greenway. The Parkway
Preservation Committee believes these goals are not mutually
exclusive.

It is the consensus of the Parkway Preservation Committee
that the section of the Robert Moses Parkway between Niagara Falls
and Lewiston should remain open as a moderate speed limited access
roadway providing a direct free-flow route adjacent to the gorge
between these respective communities. Although different segments
of this stretch of roadway must be analyzed and designed to meet
specific constraints, an aesthetically pleasing route can be constructed
with turning lanes, low profile curbing, pull-off areas and landscaping
to be enjoyed by tourists and safely utilized by commuters and emergency
vehicles. It is the vision of the Parkway Preservation Committee
that such a route can be successfully co-located with a multi-use
trail along the gorge rim to take advantage of, and incorporate
the area’s natural beauty and scenic vistas.
